With the continuous rise of digital communication, print services seem to be falling into the background. However it has been reported that printed advertisements still account for over a third of advertising revenue around the world. Based on this fact, it is important to think about your audience and geographic targeting when creating artwork and design for print.

Print services should be used to support your online content, especially at events and tradeshows. Examples of print services that are still very prominent today are: leaflets, brochures, business cards, packaging, posted promotional vouches and more.

Because printed marketing is facing large competition with the online world, it is important to nail the artwork and design to really catch people’s eye. To create a great product it’s important to consider the colours, binding, ink, scale, finish and weight of paper (or any other material in fact, we aren’t limited to paper!)

  • Colours – What does the printer require? This determines whether the artwork is designed in RGB, Pantone or CMYK. Converting between them can affect the colour when printed
  • Scale – Artwork and design requirements are very different for business cards compared to tradeshow stands! Getting the scale right ensures a high quality end result.
  • Binding – A range of binding is available for brochures and books, all with different price ranges. Different bindings will require different margins to ensure content is still readable.
  • Finish – There are a wide range of finishes available for print these days, matt, gloss, high gloss and a variety of patterned textures.
  • Weight – Basically how think will the paper be. Typically thicker paper gives the impression of higher quality.
  • Material – Technologies today enable us to print of all sorts of materials, be more imaginative than paper to stand out from the crowd!
